Bishop’s memo to the
Vice-President of the RS, Dr N. Koljevic (Prot. no: 161/95 dated 4 November 1995)
ASSISTANCE TO THE LOCAL POPULATION DEPENDS ON YOU - THE POLITICIANS
Dear Sir!
I take the liberty to submit to you a copy of my letter - a request to the Archbishop of
Zagreb, Cardinal Franjo Kuharic. Namely, your authorised assistant, Mr Zdravko Miocevic -
during you recent visit to the USA - asked me officially on behalf of the RS to turn to
Cardinal Kuharic so that he could intervene with the Government of the Republic of Croatia
with regard to releasing electrical energy for the Banja Luka region from the “Bocac”
hydroelectric plant, or rather, that an urgent meeting be arranged to discuss this
particular issue as well as other relevant matters between representatives of the RS and
the Republic of Croatia.
I immediately did just that, even though I am aware (as you are) that we are men of the
Catholic Church and not deciding factors who can influence politicians even when our own
wants and needs are in question. We, nevertheless, wish to do good and help in every
constructive way possible which will benefit everyone concerned.
I firmly hope that His Eminence, the Cardinal will support my request. The results of
this issue, however, depend entirely upon you the politicians. I would be very pleased if
this were to be resolved positively, therefore, you must do all you can to achieve this!
With deserved respect!
Dr. Franjo Komarica,
Bishop of Banja Luka
