The SafeMed II Project Annual Workshop on Maritime Security: A platform for progress
The 2nd SafeMed II Project Annual Workshop on Maritime Security was held in Genoa between the 1 and 2 February 2011, providing an excellent platform for communication between member States of the EU and SafeMed II Project Beneficiaries. Organised by The Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) , the implementing body of the project, the workshop's main objective is to improve Maritime Security in the Mediterranean Region by mitigating any gaps existing between Project members and Beneficiaries with respect to the implementation of Maritime Security. n high on the agenda not onlyin the Assembly but in all international fora", Dr. Piazzi said.

During the two day workshop, engaging discussions allowed all present to share their views and learn from each others' experiences in the implementation of Maritime Security. SafeMed II Project Beneficiaries presented their state-of-play on Maritime Security within their respective territories while highlighting any improvements that followed the 1st Annual Workshop. Speakers from the European Commission (EC), the International Maritime Organization (IMO), REMPEC and the SafeMed consultant on maritime security also delivered presentations.  mentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.
Hosted by the Italian Coast Guard, the event brought together representatives from the Mediterranean countries member States of the European Union, the EC, IMO and eleven SafeMed II Project Beneficiaries, namely, Albania, Algeria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Montenegro, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
